#2 is up for this months rhythmic and musical digest. As we transition into the colder months of the year, I settle into a relaxing pace of stimulating reads and relaxing riffs. This edition of the bi-monthly share features a diverse set of tones and tales. I hope you enjoy!

In this new segment on the blog, I hope to post a bimonthly update on the R&Rs. Rhythms and Reads. The music I have been listening to recently, the current albums, songs — the stuff on repeat. As well as the books, magazines, articles, I have just finished or currently reading. Outside of just sharing this stuff because I occasionally get questions about this sort of thing, I hope that committing to writing this stuff down will help me learn and digest more about what I’m listening to and reading.

There is something special about Fall that can be hard to put into words. A transition period between the long and warm days of summer to the short and dark days of Winter. A transition for the mind and body. A change for the landscape. Carrying the ideals and highs of summer and stretching them as long as they will go till the snow starts falling. You are falling in love with Fall. This feeling happens every year. It’s like you’ve never seen the world so beautiful. You forget what it feels like to flourish in the fleeting season that is Fall. Hoping that the yellow leaves last forever, no falling leaves, just frolicking and holding onto that feeling. The feeling that you are right where you are supposed to be, existing in this season. Where there isn’t enough time in the day to soak up the day, there is a fairness to Fall; you get out of the season what you put in—fantasizing about the forgotten fields of yellow. The aspen meadows in the mountains where time seems to stop. It is yielding only to the flow of the wind and the twinkle of the leaves. As I reflect on the golden season, I smile with a sense of gratitude and fortune.
Fortunate to be able to find the true colors of Fall.
Read MoreTEMPO. Movements in Mountains
Movements in Mountains is a conceptual exploration of the connections Kyle Richardson finds between his athletic pursuits in Boulder's Flatirons, and his background as a musician. Experienced through three short movements, Kyle performs a live score in a visceral interpretation of his expression in the hills.
Festivals:
Crested Butte Film Festival, September 25 to October 4
5Point Film Festival, October 14 to October 18
Banff Mountain Film Festival, October 31 to November 8
Digital Premiere, October 20
Director's Statement
Tempo began as a documentary process and exploration of Kyle's love of the niche sport of scrambling. Through hours running trails together, conversations of music and nonverbal communication came out, leading to comparisons of drumming and scrambling.
The piece was a fully collaborative process. Capturing the scrambling, interpreting the movements in a live score, then editing the piece to the score. In the end, Kyle finishes what I started, perfecting the audio mix of his overall performance.
